What Is RF Microneedling?

By Poppy Broughton

Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling is a minimally invasive aesthetic treatment that boasts transformative results for your clients. Investing in an RF microneedling machine for your clinic will allow you to expand your offerings and, in turn, your revenue. But, what is RF microneedling and how can it benefit your clients?

In this Fox Pharma blog, we’ll explore RF microneedling treatments and detail how they differ from traditional devices. We will also discuss Fox Pharma’s cutting-edge range of RF microneedling machines, featured in our new collection of aesthetic devices.

What Is Standard Microneedling?

Microneedling, commonly referred to as collagen induction therapy (CIT), involves puncturing the skin with a series of miniature needles. This controlled damage triggers the body’s natural repair response, stimulating collagen and elastin production and improving overall skin texture.

The healing process and benefits triggered by a microneedling treatment can be effectively used to even skin tone, reduce the appearance of scarring and acne scarring, and minimise fine lines and wrinkles.

What Is RF Microneedling?

Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling offers more enhanced cell rejuvenation than standard microneedling as it also involves radiofrequency waves alongside the existing benefits of microneedling. This non-surgical procedure takes advantage of the transformative benefits of radiofrequency waves, which amplify and accelerate results by heating beneath the dermis to tighten the skin. These combined benefits mean clients will observe more enhanced results for a more extended period of time.

Results of radiofrequency microneedling include:

  • Rejuvenating, lifting, and tightening the skin.
  • Improving overall skin texture.
  • Reducing the size and visibility of pores.
  • Reducing the appearance of scars and stretch marks.
  • Smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.

What RF Microneedling Treatment Involves

When using a radiofrequency (RF) microneedling device, you must first prepare the area to ensure your client has no makeup, sweat or oils that could enter the channels made by the treatment, cause infection or interfere with results. If using the Inthera Bipolar RF Microneedling with Cryo Cooling Technology, you can cool your client’s skin to minimise any pain or discomfort. Following, you should hold the device to the target area, where micro-needles will pierce the skin at your chosen depth, allowing the radiofrequency waves to penetrate deep below the skin’s surface.

RF Microneedling Aftercare and Side Effects

Due to the nature of the treatment, clients can expect to observe some redness, irritation and bumps at injection sites after an RF microneedling session. Additionally, they may likely experience a degree of swelling. You may compare their faces to feeling slightly sunburnt immediately following the procedure, and these side effects can last for a few days. If your client is experiencing discomfort, you can recommend they soothe the area with a cold compress.

It is important to advise proper aftercare to reduce the risk of any complications, such as infection or further irritation. The RF microneedling aftercare you recommend to your clients should include the following:

  • Cease the use of active ingredients in skincare products.
  • Avoid exercise and other sweat-inducing activities for at least the first 48 hours.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure to minimise sensitivity.
